Troubleshoot Windows RDP login issue
Last validated:
If you log in to Windows locally using a PIN (Windows Hello) you might find you're unable to log in over Remote Desktop (RDP). Windows requires traditional account passwords for RDP connections.
If you do not have an account password, for example, Windows 11 defaults to using a PIN (Windows Hello), you will want to change your sign-in options and enable password authentication. You can find more information from the Microsoft Support topic Windows sign-in options and account protection.
