We’ve heard useful and enthusiastic feedback from Tailscale fans at a few in-person meetups recently. Whether they are hosting their own large language models (LLMs) or building out a NAS setup for their whole family, they have ideas on what could make Tailscale better to use. One thing that keeps coming up: a place for real-time discussion.
So we’re meeting the devs, hobbyists, and enthusiasts where many of them already are: Discord. Don’t get us wrong, we still love Reddit and GitHub, and they work great for focused discussions, threaded community support, and working on projects. But what about everything in-between?
We wanted a place where you can:
- Just hang out and chat
- Show off your homelab setup or self-hosted stack
- Hear what others are building and how they’re doing it
🪄 So … we made a Discord. Where funnels, nodes, and k8s can hang out. Our new Tailscale Discord server is a community space for developers, power users, hobbyists, and the Tailscale-curious.
Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the channels we have at the start:
- #help: A place to get help from the community (not staffed 24/7)
- #access-control: For all things ACLs, tags, groups, and policy files
- #dns: Got a MagicDNS mystery or search domain setup gone rogue? We’ve got you
- #serve-and-funnel: Share tips, bugs, or config ideas for exposing services securely
- #subnet-routers-exit-nodes: Yes, even that dual-purpose Pi running everything in your house
- #github-actions: CI/CD workflows + Tailscale = ❤️
- #taildrop-and-taildrive: For talking about Tailscale's file-sharing tools
- #k8s-operator: For those managing clusters over Tailscale
- #community-projects: Show us what you’ve built!
- #off-topic: For random chatter and fun!
🎛️ Built with you in mind
The new Discord community isn’t a marketing channel. It’s not replacing our support docs, GitHub issues, or Reddit. It’s a space for contributors and curious folks to share what they’re working on, ask questions, and get quick feedback.
A heads-up: this Discord server is all about the community helping each other out, not a round-the-clock support channel. As a reminder, we offer email support to all users. If you ever need help from our team, the best way is still to reach out through our support form.
We know Discord isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Some people prefer slower, more structured conversations, or just don’t want to add another platform to their day. That’s totally fair. This server is just one more way to connect, and not the only way.
We’re glad you show up to talk, or just lurk, in whatever way works for you.
✨ How can I Join?
You can join our new sparkly server by heading over here.
🧩 What’s next?
The server will evolve as the community grows. We’re exploring ideas like regular AMAs with the team, and Community live demos.
