November Tailscale newsletter

Purple shapes on a purple background

In technology, you don’t want to mindlessly chase trends — but you also don’t want them to leave you behind. In that spirit, about a year ago we decided to look into all of this AI business and see what it had to do with Tailscale. Our CEO and co-founder Avery Pennarun describes what we found in a new piece called (spoiler alert!) “AI companies are surprisingly normal.”

In fact, we learned that Tailscale had become very popular among AI companies! And we learned that the reasons are pretty much structural to their requirements and how Tailscale works. AI companies have networking needs that Tailscale solves, and those needs just aren’t that unusual. But to really understand what that means, you’ll have to read Avery’s post.

If you’re running an AI startup confronting networking challenges, check out our AI startup program. But first, check out the rest of this newsletter for updates on Tailscale, our community, and upcoming events.

Product Updates

  • Tailscale log streaming now supports S3 destinations
Tailscale administrators can now use Amazon S3 and S3-compatible buckets as streaming destinations for both configuration audit logs and network flow logs. This adds flexibility for teams that want to stream logging data for compliance reasons, but don’t want the overhead and costs of a full SIEM solution.
  • Kubernetes, direct connections, and you
Tailscale can help you securely connect to anything on the internet, including remote resources in Kubernetes clusters. And we can establish connections even when the path is not ideal — but that may involve trade-offs that aren't right for your application. Solutions engineer Lee Briggs outlines how to minimize latency with direct connections in Kubernetes environments.
  • Google Workspace access provisioning is now generally available
We’re excited to announce the general availability of our latest Google Workspace integration — user and group provisioning. This powerful new feature is designed to allow admins to seamlessly sync users and groups in their Google Workspace with Tailscale, streamlining access provisioning and making secure networking even easier.
  • Tailscale and 1Password Device Trust, now generally available
Tailscale’s device posture integration with 1Password Extended Access Management's device trust (previously called Kolide) is now generally available. This integration is designed to address the access-trust gap of devices in your network, and helps ensure that only trusted and compliant devices are accessing your company’s network and resources.
  • Tailscale named in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50
Tailscale has been recognized in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 as one of Canada’s fastest-growing tech innovators. It’s an honour to be included alongside other companies that are pushing boundaries, both abroad and right here at home.
